Climate Data Supporting TCFD-Aligned Regulations

The growing need for climate-related financial disclosures around the globe requires Climate research and data that can support the assessment of climate risks and opportunities and the fulfilment of disclosure requirements. Morningstar’s Climate Solutions aim to help meet those needs.

To support growing requirements of TCFD-aligned regulations, our carbon emissions dataset is being enhanced to provide better coverage of currencies as well as a number of datapoints often required in these regulations.

What’s changing?

Below is an overview of the changes to the Carbon emissions dataset in Morningstar Data Services:

• A full detail of the below fund-level changes is available here.
  • A new “ESG Fund-Level Carbon Emissions (Multi Currency)” data template is available to pull carbon emissions data in different currencies.
    • Client Action: Your firm is entitled to this new template and can start consuming data from it as you see fit.
  • Multi currency carbon emission data points are available as freestyle data points as well under a new “ESG Fund-Level Carbon Emissions (Multi Currency)” group.
    • Client Action: Your firm is entitled to these free style data points and group and can start consuming these data points as you see fit.
  • Existing “ESG Fund-Level Carbon Emissions” template is updated with 185 new data points as well as the name of 22 existing data points have been updated as well.
    • Client Action: If you have a feed using this data template, please update existing data point list to include the newly added data points or use a new data point list as you see fit. Updated data point names are not reflected in an existing feed unless the affected data points are removed and added back to its underlying data point list.
  • The 185 new data points are added as freestyle data points under existing “ESG Fund-Level Carbon Emissions” group and a default display name for 22 data points in the same group are updated. Updated data point names are not reflected in an existing feed unless the affected data points are removed and added back to its underlying data point list.
    • Client Action: If you have a feed using these current data points or want to add the net new data points, please update existing data point list to include the newly added data points or use a new data point list. Updated data point names are not reflected in an existing feed unless the affected data points are removed and added back to its underlying data point list.
