Morningstar to Modify Grecian Open-End and Exchange Traded Funds to Private in Morningstar Essentials – Mar. 31, 2024

Originally posted Dec. 20, 2023

On Mar. 31, 2024, Morningstar will modify the attached Grecian domestic Open-End Funds and Exchanged Traded Funds (ETFs) from public to private in our database.

As such, these funds will no longer be supported within Morningstar Essentials because they will no longer have a Morningstar RatingTM (often called the Star Rating) nor a Morningstar Category as private funds are not in scope for ratings, rankings, and categorization.

If your firm is licensed for these funds in Morningstar Essentials today, your Sales Representative will be in touch to discuss the change and impact on your license.

Contact your Sales Representative if your firm wants to have access to the Grecian funds in the private database as you will need to be entitled to access with a new data license. But, as noted above the private data will not contain a Morningstar Rating for these funds.

Morningstar ESG Commitment Level and Landscape Report in Morningstar Essentials – Apr. 17, 2024

Originally posted Mar. 14, 2024

Due to forthcoming changes in the regulatory environment, Morningstar has decided to retire the ESG Commitment Level and related explanatory text, including the Asset Manager assessment, assessment analyst, and assessment date, on Apr. 17, 2024, to ensure we are aligning with market expectations.

We wanted to clarify that the ESG Commitment Level Landscape Report will be available after Apr. 17, 2024. As such, for firms licensed for the ESG Commitment Level designation through their Morningstar Essentials license, we will still generate the designation, and clients can continue to use the designation in any internal or external materials after Apr. 17, 2024.

As a global provider, Morningstar will continue to provide investors with ESG insights to inform their investment choices, and we will continue to evaluate asset managers’ commitment to ESG and sustainable investing.

Over the coming months, we will review our approach and methodology for doing so globally while we monitor the evolution and practical implications of ESG-related regulations, including the pending EU regulation on ESG Rating Providers, including various national Codes of Conduct.
